Applying to the SHEIN Free Trial Center takes about two minutes once you know where it is. The part that takes more care is everything around it: picking items wisely, getting your size right the first time and writing a review that meets SHEIN’s rules. Here is the full process, based on SHEIN’s own Free Trial Help Center.
Before you apply: a 5-minute setup
These steps are not SHEIN requirements, they simply prevent the mistakes the rules do not let you undo:
- Know your measurements. Measure bust, waist, hips and inseam and compare them with each item’s size chart. SHEIN cannot change the size after the trial order is created.
- Check your address. It must be in the same country as the site you use: a US address on SHEIN’s US site. The address cannot be changed after the order is created either.
- Use one account only. SHEIN bans people who apply from multiple accounts and may close those accounts.
- Practice on what you already own. Reviewing past purchases with photos builds the habit and earns points. See how SHEIN reviews earn points.
How to apply, step by step
- Sign in to the SHEIN app or website.
- Open your account page (the “Me” tab in the app), go to More Services, then Other Services, then Free Trial Center. Menu labels can shift between app versions; if you do not see it, search the help center for “Free Trial”.
- Browse the items currently open for trial.
- Tap Free Trial on an item you would genuinely wear.
- Choose your size and confirm the shipping address, then submit.
- Your application appears as Pending under My Free Trial, then My Applications.
- Repeat for up to 3 items that week.
Choosing items: what actually helps
SHEIN says testers are picked at random and that your odds depend on how many people apply for each item. It also says the system may consider your account and Free Trial history. That leads to a few practical choices:
| Choice | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Spread your 3 picks across less hyped items | Fewer applicants on an item means better odds on that item |
| Only apply for things you’d wear | You can’t swap or cancel, and you’ll owe a full review |
| Pick categories you can photograph well | Worn, full-body photos are required |
| Apply every week | Applications don’t roll over, so unused ones are lost |
Skip anything you could not return a useful opinion on. A dress that will not fit is still a review you owe.
After you apply: what happens next
- Results: check the Free Trial Center from the second Tuesday after applying. Status changes to Approved or Failed. Selected testers get an email and an app notification.
- Shipping: an approved trial becomes an order automatically. SHEIN covers shipping. If customs charges a duty, SHEIN’s rules say you pay it.
- Not arriving: if the trial order has not arrived after 30 days, SHEIN asks you to contact its customer service.
- Out of stock: sometimes the size runs out; SHEIN asks you to contact customer service about a replacement.
Writing the review: photo and text checklist
SHEIN asks for the review within 10 days of receiving the item. The rules call for a full-body shot and two detail photos, and SHEIN recommends four photos in total:
- A full-body photo of you wearing the item.
- A close-up of the fabric or texture.
- A close-up of a detail (stitching, buttons, print, lining).
- How you styled it, or what you like most.
For the text, SHEIN asks for honest pros and cons, not just praise. A useful review answers:
- Does it run small, large or true to size? Say your usual size and height.
- Is the fabric thin, see-through, stretchy or itchy?
- Does the color match the listing photos?
- What would you pair it with?
Rules to respect: take your own photos, never use listing or other customers’ photos, and do not include anyone under 18. If your first review is rejected, SHEIN may give you one chance to fix and resubmit it.
Points you can earn from trial reviews
SHEIN awards 20 points for a trial review that meets the requirements and 100 more if it is rated a “Quality Review”. In SHEIN’s US terms, 100 points equal $1 off eligible products. Learn how to use them in the SHEIN points guide.
If you are not picked
Most applications are not selected, so plan for that. Apply again next week and keep saving the dependable way: real SHEIN coupon sources, shipping thresholds and returns know-how in our US and Canada shipping guide, and a hard look at whether SHEIN CLUB is worth it for how you shop. And if anyone messages you claiming you “won” a SHEIN trial you never applied for, read our scam red flags first.
Frequently asked questions
How many SHEIN Free Trial applications can I submit?
SHEIN's rules allow up to 3 applications per week. Unused applications do not carry over to the next week.
When do I find out if I was selected?
SHEIN says you can check your status in the Free Trial Center starting the second Tuesday after you apply. Selected testers also get an email and an app notification.
Can I change my size after applying?
No. SHEIN cannot change the size or address once the trial order is created, and you cannot cancel an application, so double-check both before you submit.
What happens if I don't post the review?
SHEIN asks for the review within 10 days of receiving the item. Not submitting it affects whether you can join future trials.
